TCAL ends

The Community At Large in its current iteration is now over. Thanks for visiting, but you won’t find any new posts here. Also, all comments forms are closed, except on this post.
TCAL ran from 1998 - 1999, and then disappeared until September 2004 when it returned in the form you see it in today. It now stops, with one last iteration to come in the next few years.
Thanks a million to all our thousands of daily readers, those who left comments on posts, anyone who took the time to email in links and stories for the site, and also to those who wrote feature articles.
Thanks to all the frequent posters: Adam, Dave, Davey, G, Norm, Piaras, Steph, adnans, dodger, gordy, jp, kgaughan, littleman, maca, squid, stephen xiel, Si, Feshti, PeterR, lorcan, rOb, sbradish, twenty and Tim.
My favourite link is still Quest for the Crown.
TCAL returns one more time. Until then.

Yay, Lara Croft in Ireland!
Feshti's back and this time he's counting down the top 10 movie opening scenes of all time.
Is American opinion and culture crowding out all others?
Wow. TCAL forever. Thanks danger. It was great.

Interestingly, all my posts are effectively a record of everything that I’m interested in, kind of.

Nice one mate, kept us entertained almost every day. Sorry to see it end, I remember day one, and throwing meteorites at the f**kin dolphins
See ye around.

Thanks to all concerned for all the brilliant posts. I’ll be even more out of the loop without them… Not quite with this whole mysterious trilogy thing but good luck with all your ventures in the meantime and I await the third coming!

What?? Who will we steal stuff from over at BifSniff.com???
Seriously, this is the first blog ever I’ve been pissed off to hear is closing up shop.
When can we expect to hear the full story? What will the next iteration be?
Damn… good luck with whatever it is you’re planning anyway.

Comment by redmum — February 26, 2007 @ 11:12 am
[…] That’s the news that greeted me this morning upon opening Bloglines. It appears as if danger has made the decision to end TCAL for the moment. For those who aren’t fimiliar with TCAL, The Community at Large, it’s a group blog featuring everything and anything. It’s become one of my favourite blogs to read over the past couple of years and I’m sad to see it go. Danger hasn’t really explained why TCAL is leaving us for the moment but has said there will be “one last iteration to come in the next few years”. […]

this project was doomed from the start when Dave started asking me for advice
well done Dave on the current site and don’t forget to contact me again when you decide to start once Web 3.0 fizzles out and Web 4.0 comes out fighting with strippers and such.
for those who are wondering wtf, look at this - http://tcal.net/archives/author/adnans
any chance of some kind of statistics rundown from 2004 to present?
Comment by adnans — February 26, 2007 @ 6:08 pm

Comment by tim — February 26, 2007 @ 7:13 pm
It was years of leech-like deliberation before I decided to start posting. Now I wish I had done so far quicker. Thanks for the mention danger, but I had hoped to contribute a heck of a lot more…
Looking forward eagerly to the next incarnation.
Until then, love to TCAL!

Steon, the dublin costal development project, the list goes on. You will be missed, a nation mourns your departure.
Comment by Dony — February 26, 2007 @ 7:31 pm
I didn’t see that one coming.
To be honest, it’s the only way TCAL could have gone, and a great to way to end it.
Now they’ll have to give you the obligatory “end of career better give him an Oscar” type Blog Award.

Arguably this site became bigger than most thought it would. Sheer credit is due to danger for all the hard work done on the site and the consistent high level of quality - and also credit due to the community itself.
I look forward to the third installment, whatever form it takes.

Much credit indeed and many bottles of kudos and International Phonetic Alphabets to danger for all the brilliant work.
krynn/letmooTout: I’ve followed that innane thread for weeks out of sheer morbid curiousity. I laughed out loud when I read that comment above and realised.
And since a little t-bird told me a bit more, it makes Such Gargantuan sense. ;P
Get on 282 smartass!
