Strawberry Alarm clock off to 2FM possibly

danger @ 3:39 pm

Rumours abound that guys behind the Strawberry Alarm clock are jumping ship to 2fm.

Just got word that the Colm Hayes and Jim Jim Nugent are off to 2fm with the award winning Strawberry Alarm Clock…

Boards.ie thread. The strawberry alarm clock blog seems to be gone kaput, and Damien Mulley points out on his blog that all reference to the guys seems to be gone from FM104.ie.

  3. ‘Tis true - here are the press releases I got on the matter yesterday (feel free to add them to the main post - sorry about the really long comment:

    From FM104:
Changes at FM 104’s ‘Strawberry Alarm Clock’
FM 104, Dublin’s hit music radio station, has announced that the current ‘Strawberry Alarm Clock’ presenters Colm Hayes and Jim-Jim Nugent will be leaving the show with immediate effect. Andy Mathews will host the show until the new presenters are announced. The ‘Strawberry Alarm Clock’ will
continue to provide fun and entertainment every morning with Kidz In The Car, The Word, Showbiz Gossip, Comedy Bits and the usual unpredictability.

Commenting on the move Tim Fenn, Chief Executive, FM104 said,
“The programme is a tremendous success and I want to thank Colm and Jim-Jim for their part in this. The time has now come for them to pursue other interests and I wish them well with their future careers.

For us at FM 104 it is a wonderful opportunity to introduce fresh blood and even more fun into the ‘Strawberry Alarm Clock’ mix. People who tune into FM104 each morning will continue to wake up to a creative and entertaining show.”

A spokesperson for FM104 said the rumour that the two had been forcefully removed from the studio on Friday was untrue, that the split was amicable and that management at the station had been informed of the decision since earlier in the week.

    From 2FM:
RTÉ 2fm today announced details of exciting new breakfast and evening shows.

Colm and Jim Jim, well known for The Strawberry Alarm Clock on FM 104, will anchor The 2fm Alarm Clock from 6 to 9am and Will Leahy will anchor the Drivetime slot, The Shift with Will Leahy, from 5 to 7pm.

Speaking about the new schedule John Clarke, Head of RTÉ 2fm, said:
“RTÉ 2fm with this strengthened schedule is firmly focusing its programming towards the 15-34 age group. The changes will bring freshness to an already strong output. Our new breakfast show will be presented by the two top presenters for this young audience. The new early evening shift bookends a competitive daytime line up which is creating a very positive reaction from the commercial world “.

The 2fm Alarm Clock with Colm and Jim Jim is the new 6 to 9am breakfast show for RTÉ 2fm, Monday - Friday. This winning team has continually grown the breakfast audience of 15 -34 year olds over the last six years and was the No. 1 music breakfast show for this audience in the capital.
The duo has been a huge success and are seven time PPI Award Winners.

When asked about Marty Whelan, who the two presenters will replace, a spokesperson said:
RTÉ 2fm is very happy with how Marty Whelan performed with the early morning slot, however when this programme began it was always going to be a bridge to new things and the time has now come for change’

  4. I think its terrible - shame on their lack of loyalty, they obviously went for the money and shame on the fat cats in 2FM for having to poach a smaller radio stations presenters, FM104 could obviously not compete …. & poor Marty, no matter what you think of him the treatment he received was desperate!!!!

    Comment by Maud — January 31, 2007 @ 5:26 pm

  5. Come on now - There is nothing terrible about it, its life. If nothing was to change the world would be a boring place

  8. I, like most people thought that the lads were on holiday until the female DJ this morning mentioned something about on next week’s show and then I thought hold on a second, so I began to google. I think it all seems a bit hush, hush as there is absolutely no trace of Colm or Jim Jim on the fm 104 website anymore, but I suppose that’s business. I think Marty Whelan seems like a nice guy but I definitely think his show should be replaced with something a bit more lively, and that I presume that is where the lads come in.. Looking forward to tuning into to 2fm when they start.
