Surfers snub rescuers for not taking boards
Some hard core surfers got into trouble in pursuit of huge waves at the base of the Cliffs of Moher and subsequently refused to be rescued by a helicopter crew because the rescuers refused to take their surf boards.
The Irish Marine Search and Rescue Committee (IMSARC) called a meeting and took the unusual step of issuing a statement today about its deep concern at the incident.
It stated “in the strongest terms” that the behaviour of the surfers involved was “completely unacceptable” to the rescue agencies and to the maritime community.
BN story. That is just true raging against the dying of the light. Or: Stupid. I’m wondering if there’s more to this story? (via.)

Yay, Lara Croft in Ireland!
Feshti's back and this time he's counting down the top 10 movie opening scenes of all time.
Is American opinion and culture crowding out all others?
They should have left the ungrateful pricks in the water.

I’m behind the rescue services 100%. I’m from that part of the country and I’ve visited the cliffs manys a time. The winds, rocks and currents at those cliffs would make anyone squirm. These idiots should be dipped in the atlantic along with those who like to walk to the edge of the cliffs and turn their backs to the cliff edge for holiday snaps.

Exactly. All these extreme sports prats are all balls when they’re talking about doing something exhilirating and dangerous, but put them in actual danger and they’re whiny pricks. The emergency services shouldn’t bother going out to them in the first place. Same thing for prats getting lost on solo expeditions.
