Irish kitchen sink usability
IQ Content blog has an entry on the usability of the Irish kitchen sink, and questions the practice of inserting a plastic basin into the sink.
The basin merely does the same job as the sink, but less effectively: the capacity is reduced by about one third; the sink’s stopper is made redundant; and draining the water from the basin can be very difficult, especially when it is full. Surely the sink by itself does a better job. Yet this practice is common throughout the country. Why?

Yay, Lara Croft in Ireland!
Feshti's back and this time he's counting down the top 10 movie opening scenes of all time.
Is American opinion and culture crowding out all others?
Because Irish People are Totally Fucking Stupid.

A Comment was made on the fact that a little extra draining area is not available on most Irish sinks, so the basin is handy, when you’re washing up and you need to pour out the ends of cups of tea/water/coke/whatever.
Other than that, the basin is a bit of a waste. I had come used to it growing up, but college changed that, and now it’s non existant in my home.
@slutmonkey57b: I would digg you down if I could.

As has been pointed out on the original post; ’tis fer de spuds - de washin’ an’ peelin’ an’ dat.
And so it is proven, racial stereotypes hold.

It also gives the rinser of the basin a wee bit more extra time to look out the window.

a plastic basin makes the water stay warm longer than a metal sink (which is a heat sink) You also need less water.
