Woman dies, 13 injured in coach chase
Some crazy stuff happened over on the Naas dual carraigeway earlier today.
An elderly woman has died after being knocked down by a coach involved in a garda chase on the Naas dual carriageway in west Dublin today.
The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle in the Bluebell area as it was being driven at high speed along the busy road.
Up to 20 patrol cars and the garda helicopter descended on the area after the coach smashed into a number of cars and drove for a time along the LUAS tracks.
Update: More at RTE News as well:
The incident began when the man took the bus from a depot in Rathcoole early this morning following what gardaí believe was a row. There followed an incident at Heuston Station around midday.
At Bluebell the driver caused mayhem ploughing into cars resulting in the death of a woman. At three different locations gardaí fired shots in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Witnesses have been asked to call the garda incident room at Kilmainham on 01 666 9700.
Update 2: 3 blurry photos over at Newswire, direct link to posts #1 #2. People have been discussing it as it unfolded since this afternoon over at this thread at boards.ie.
RTE now have the six one news video coverage up at the bottom of the same article link as before.
BBC have picked it up and have a decent picture of the bus that was involved.
Some Irish blog reaction too:
Sicilian Notes wonders what would have happened if the gardai had shot the bus driver.
The Midnight Court wonders about how the bus could have been able to keep going for an hour
Piaras Kelly points to the previously unheard of appeal for cameraphone footage from witnesses.
Be at lot more in the morning; check it out at irishblogs.ie or planet.journals.ie.

I’m still in shock over this. I grew up around that company, because my dad used to work for it, but I’m more shocked at how foreign it is to hear of rampages and shots fired by police in Dublin.
It’s definitely changed a lot, for the worse.
