Resonance and Rice
Youtube. Thanks Gordy.
The keeper would want to forget that one in a hurry. Here’s a news report about it.
MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) — They may sport love handles and Ivy League degrees, but every two weeks some Silicon Valley techies turn into vicious street brawlers in a real-life, underground fight club.
Kicking, punching and swinging every household object imaginable — from frying pans and tennis rackets to pillowcases stuffed with soda cans — they beat each other mercilessly in a garage in this bedroom community south of San Francisco.
Then, bloodied and bruised, they limp back to their desks in the morning.

Timelines are great. Let’s look at some.
Our starting point should of course be wikipedia, so go to the Wikipedia List of themed timelines. Also check out The Center for Cooperative Research History Commons. It’s a great resource and features among others: the Hurricane Katrina timeline and the Complete 911 timeline with 2133 events back as far as 1979.
There’s othertimelines.com, which has loads of alternative histories, and tends to be hilarious. Also fictional is the awesome Timeline of Events in Halflife History, the Futurama Timeline, the timeline for the movie Primer (previously), and THE MOVIE TIMELINE (previously) which assumes that everything that happens in movies is reality.
The Food Timeline goes as far back as 17,000BC and includes references to water and ice, chicken domestication, and lollipops. Theres a link off to The History of Beer at fosters.com.
The incredibly detailed Hobbes’ Internet Timeline v8.1 is jammed with stuff from 1957 to the present about the history of the internet. Related is the Google 20 Year Usenet Timeline (previously). Also nerdy is Boingboing’s timeline of the Sony rootkit debacle. (previously), and the awesome Computer Languages Timeline. The Yahoo Visual Timeline 1996-2006 has screen grabs of the yahoo homepage over the past 10 years which is particularly interesting given its recent revamp. There’s a link off from there to the Google version.
Interactive timelines can be cool:
The History of rock and Roll Visual Timeline.
Evolution / History of the universe.
Another 911 one.
Some others worthy of note:
Wikitimescale.com but it seems to be down at the moment. Keep an eye on this wikipedia entry for details.
The Timeline of Cubism.
History of Psychology Timeline.
The Pirate Bay website, one of the longest running provider of torrents has been raided and it’s servers seized according to this Slyck news article.
The seizure of ThePirateBay.org’s entire server farm will guarantee this BitTorrent tracker will remain offline until the police complete their investigation. Whether this will keep ThePirateBay.org offline indefinitely is another matter.
“We are not sure when it will return, but we are moving it to another country if necessary,” brokep said.

It’s been a source of much merriment all over the internets of late (see our previous post if you are in the dark), and now the BBC reports that Police are investigating the website.
“We have got an allegation of improper use of public electronic communications network that was reported to us on 29 May in person at Fulham police station,” he said.

World Cup Blog: 34 blogs reporting daily on every detail of the world’s greatest sporting event
Looks like it’s going to be pretty comprehensive then. World Cup Blog. (via.)
Microsoft’s new operating system, which won’t arrive for consumers until early next year, has a new collaboration feature that allows laptops to share information with other nearby machines. The underlying technology is known as “People Near Me” and is being used by Microsoft for its own software projects and by other developers. The company has built one program based on it into Vista–Windows MeetingSpace–that lets people share and view files.
Full story. It’s peer to peer, as in it requires WiFi but not internet access. That could be very cool. Though if it’s anything like their moves in MSN Messenger land, where they block ‘potentially unsafe files’, ie. anything they feel like, then it will be stupid.
Bubble Hits, a new Irish owned TV music channel, is set to air on the BSkyB platform from the 14th August 2006.The station, owned by two young Irish entrepreneurs James Hyland (23) and Lee Walsh (22), will broadcast hit music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no commercial breaks.
Bubble Hits say they’re able to accomplish this staggering feat because revenue will be generated by integrated advertising, show sponsorship and viewer interaction via SMS, MMS and web. Sponsored competitions for ‘Prizes You Can’t Buy’ and ‘Exclusive Intimate Gigs’ will also contribute to the station’s income
User generated content is hot - HOT! But if you’re a UGC (yup, I’m using the acronym) site, like RateItAll, Facebook, YouTube, or MySpace, how do you incent your members to post more great stuff, so you can make more money? Well, Google is only too happy to help you out there. Word has leaked recently (Eric was first) that Google is (reportedly) working on a new API that will allow content sites to distribute AdSense earnings to individual members.
That’s good news for that long term probably never going to happen monetisation of TCAL. Read more at John Battelle’s Searchblog. (via.)
Fifty years after she first graced the pages of a comic book, Batwoman is to return to the world of superheroes - as a lesbian socialite. After an absence of almost 30 years and following months of feverish speculation among fans of the genre, Batwoman will make an appearance in the July issue of a comic called 52, produced by the legendary publishers DC Comics.
Her real identity is Kathy Kane, described as a “lesbian socialite by night and a crime fighter by later in the night.” Kathy Kane was also the name of the original Batwoman’s alter ego, created in 1956.
Well there you have it. Full story at The Independent.
The entire first episode of cult hit Spaced is online at YouTube. Wikipedia entry has loads on it. The Spaced: Definitive Collectors Edition Season 1 + 2 DVD Box set is out July 3rd.
I used the word blogosphere. Tim O’Reilly has posted his response to the fiasco that saw the IT@Cork Web 2.0 conference get a cease and decist letter for using ‘web 2.0′ in their conference name. TCAL reported that here: IT@Cork get cease and decist for using Web 2.0 term for event.
The entire internet found out and every one was upset with O’Reilly (They make books, they don’t repair hotels badly.) Damien Mulley, a popular Irish blogger said that the reason everyone was so upset was because
It was family we got riled up for, not the web 2.0 name
But that’s just hilarious nonsense, all I can think of is bloggers sitting around in Sopranos fashion mumbling about respecting the family.
Another different trailer with more different footage, apparently you’ll see this at some showings of X-Men 3, but that could be just Stateside. Only found a crappy youtubeovision version at the moment:
Those on the Aer Lingus mailing list will apparently have got this neat bit of news in their inboxes already: Aer Lingus have a winter sale on right now and you have to book before midnight, 1st of June to avail of some damned good offers between 7th November and 20th December inclusive. Warsaw for €10!
www.aerlingus.com. AKA Marketing have a post with some good detail on the sale . Thanks Dave.

The winner of the Slashdot redesign competition has been announced. For the uninitiated, Slashdot is a huge tech news sites for nerds. Read more about it at wikipedia. You can view the winning design here, and it appears they have certainly gone with the if-it-aint-broke-don’t-fix-it school of redesign. And wait a second… what’s that I see?
Every single time one of our photoshop monkeys comes up with a redesign for TCAL it’s wall to wall chrome. It’s impossible to resist. The gradient fill buttons in various graphic design packages across the world actually have dead pixels on them where they’ve been clicked too much.
Update: Here’s the web page of the winner. Here are the other two finalists: One & Two.
Well after Eminem’s no show and Madonna’s damp performance it has been announced that there will be no concert at Slane Castle this year.
LORD MOUNT CHARLES & MCD ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THERE WILL NOT BE A CONCERT AT SLANE CASTLE THIS YEAR. THEY DID NOT CONSIDER THAT THERE WAS A SUITABLE ACT AVAILABLE FOR THE VENUE
No harm done here, plenty already happening this summer. Fingers crossed they will give it a few years then come back with a great line up.
