Catholic League on South Park

danger @ 3:09 pm

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights have a press release with comments from their president on getting the recent South Park finale re-runs pulled from Comedy Central.

“Several news stories today are reporting on the decision by Comedy Central to pull a scheduled rerun of the ‘Bloody Mary’ episode that was shown on ‘South Park’ on December 7-10. The decision reflects what I asked for in our news release of December 8. Therefore, I commend Comedy Central for finally making the right decision. That it aired in the first place, however, does not speak well for the bigots responsible for creating it.

Why can’t they just turn it off? If something offends you, can’t you just switch it off? Isn’t that exercising your right? What right does this organisation to censor what others watch? I’ll slip off the obvious socks now. Full press release. Previous story. (via.)

Stackable Cars

danger @ 2:02 pm

Neat concept. Cars that fold up like shopping trolleys to help with traffic congestion.

“We have to think of city cars as not just small-footprint vehicles that can squeeze into tight spaces but ones that can work in unison and also be almost like a parasite that leeches on to mass-transit systems,” says Mr Chin.

“Imagine a shopping cart - a vehicle that can stack - you can take the first vehicle out of a stack and off you go,” says Mr Chin. “These stacks would be placed throughout the city. A good place would be outside a subway station or a bus line or an airport, places where there’s a convergence of transportation lines and people.”

Star Trek is most missed series

danger @ 1:52 pm
Sci-fi series Star Trek is the show most people want to see returned to their TV screens, a survey has found.

It’s only been gone since February. Needs more time for whoever was writing the recent stuff to be rounded up and culled. Full story.

Killinaskully cleans up at Christmas

danger @ 1:39 pm
RTÉ’s ‘Killinaskully - A Christmas Carol’ was the top rating television programme with Irish viewers across all Irish television channels this Christmas.

Story for that. I haven’t done exhaustive research, but the real way to measure effective Christmas television is the FOBTTFTS ratings.

The Frequency Of Back To The Future Trilogy Showings is the only scientific method to rate Christmas television. It includes all non-digital UK & Ireland television channels that can be received here. Basically, it’s:

number of back to the future showings / days off at Christmas = Christmas rating.

Days off at Christmas we usually use 24th December to 1st of January as our rating. You can get all complicated about it if you want and weight showings on the more important days eg. Christmas Eve, Day etc. but the important and frightening trend is a steady slide in the number of showings over the last 10 years. There may be trouble ahead.

Do you get less wet if you run in the rain?

danger @ 2:17 am

That’s a fantastic question, and you are just lying or plain stupid if you’ve never thought of it. The BBC investigates. And they get

a Master of Science in astrophysics and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society

to write it. The BBC rules.

Man wins claim against spam

dodger @ 5:28 pm

Net expert Nigel Roberts has won a landmark legal victory by chasing down a UK spammer and winning £300 in costs. Interesting Read.

Roberts, who runs his own Internet business as well as the Jersey and Guernsey country code domains, used his legal know-how to apply EU legislation to a UK company, Media Logistics.

It is believed to be the first time the legislation has been used in the UK, and could open the doors for thousands of other cases.

Good for him.

3Crosses

danger @ 4:27 pm

3 Crosses is a ganster film filmed here, the UK and the US and it’s set for release in 2006.

After producing some short films, one IFTA-nominated documentary and a new show for Sky Television (to be aired in January 2005 on Sky One), The Figgis Brothers have been working on their first feature, ‘3Crosses’. The story concerns the turbulent relationship of two brothers, Jonnie and Jay Linski who are, in their own individual ways, trying to come to terms with the murder of their younger brother Danny.

That’s from here. It has an IMDB listing. Showbiz Ireland has some pretty violent photos from a recent set visit.

Ireland still sucking at broadband

danger @ 3:28 pm

Electric News has a round-up of ‘the broadband saga’ as Ireland continues to suck at high speed internet access roll-out.

It’s been something of a topsy-turvy year in the local telecoms sector over the last 12 months with a number of studies showing that while broadband adoption has risen, Ireland remains in the slow lane when it comes to high-speed internet access.

Remake of Mary Poppins possibly

danger @ 3:19 pm

Why doesn’t hollywood just call over to potential customers houses and shoot them in the face? At least that would be original. Unlike the news that they might be remaking Mary Poppins.

Let’s say Mary Poppins: Reloaded costs only $50 million to make. Now, instead of making that, we divide the cash and give 500,000 dollars to 100 young directors. It’s an absolute gurantee that at least a substantial proportion of the projects shot & filmed would be a) 10 billion times more original than any of the shite coming out of hollywoods crap hole and b) some of it would definately be commercially viable.

Hillrunning

If you haven’t tried running up a mountain as fast as you can, and then running down it as fast as you can, try it. It’s fun.

Nissan Urge + Xbox 360

dodger @ 11:18 am

This is from the Press Release from Nissan about their new concept car called the Urge. The car is the first-ever to have a fully integrated gaming system within a vehicle.

”the Nissan URGE concept car allows drivers (while parked) to play “Project Gotham Racing 3″ using the car’s own steering wheel, gas pedal and brake pedal while viewing the game on a flip-down seven-inch LCD screen.”

haha, can’t you just picture people passing by looking in at some old dude behind a wheel making breaking noises staring off into space. Nevertheless, this is awesome.
