Forum post fake murder

danger @ 9:28 pm

So maybe start with the fake BBC news story. If you didn’t notice the URL you could be sucked in. Or have a look at the thread where it happened. Click. Yep it’s all fake, but they kept the whole internet going for a while that this guy Bruce had murdered two people after an arguement in the pirate969.org forums. And people are still posting all over the place saying it’s real. It isn’t. Nope.

Taser Tag

jp @ 9:01 pm

An Art student by the name of Randy Sarafan has been working on his thesis, his thesis is a game called Taser Tag. Sarafan is a graduating student in the Parsons School of Design’s desing and technology department. Clicky for his explanation of the game.

The game is simple. Once players get within about 30 feet of each other, they can shock other players by pressing buttons located in their headband. Those around them get a jolt of between 80 and 120 volts, depending on their distance from the button-presser.

Model dummy showing taser tag equipment. Its the new paintball, I’d give it a go.

The Science of Consistency

jp @ 8:47 pm

Interesting read on Metaphilm.com about what is considered ‘canon’ in science fiction. All about inconsistencies in our favourtie films, tv shows and comics.

If Scotty witnesses Captain Kirk’s death at the beginning of Star Trek VII, it is extremely troubling to some of us—those who care, those who have intellectual integrity and the discipline of logic!—if Scotty is awakened from suspended animation approximately seventy years later in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and asks whether Captain Kirk is still alive. Scotty should know that Kirk isn’t! Something is wrong! It doesn’t add up—yet it must! It must!

Scotty, for example, must have been so addled by his time in suspended animation that he temporarily forgot that Kirk was dead (that’s the explanation fans came up with, and it’s now accepted as canonical by the Trek staff themselves, I believe). Aaaah, that’s better. All is consistent. All is well. (Or at least, all is well with that particular slip-up—on the other hand, the latest Star Trek TV series, Enterprise, is in the middle of a two-part episode, even as I write these words, that is designed to explain once and for all why the Klingons in the 1960s Star Trek series are swarthier and have less-lumpy foreheads than the Klingons in the movies and the newer Trek TV shows. It is important that we know.)

Its great when normal fans try and come up with answers all by themselves. via

Electronic Silencer

danger @ 8:40 pm
Maxwell Smart’s “cone of silence” is finally a reality.

Two people in an office here were having a tête-à-tête, but it was impossible for a listener standing nearby to understand what they were saying. The conversation sounded like a waterfall of voices, both tantalizingly familiar and yet incomprehensible.

The cone of silence, called Babble, is actually a device composed of a sound processor and several speakers that multiply and scramble voices that come within its range. About the size of a clock radio, the first model is designed for a person using a phone, but other models will work in open office space.

Sounds good. Get it? Sounds good? Haha! I’m on fire. Full story. (via.)

Conan O’Brien: Walker Texas Ranger

danger @ 8:30 pm
Conan O’Brien exploits the fact that, due to a recent merger of media companies, he can play video clips from Walker Texas Ranger at any time without paying royalties.

Some funny moments in here. See it at Milk and Cookies.

So the Live 8 line ups have sort of been announced, there will be 5 seperate shows all on July 2nd. One in Hyde Park in London, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Circus Maximus in Rome and some venue in Philadelphia.

The line up for Hyde park will be U2, REM, Sir Bob Geldolf, Mariah Carey, Coldplay, Dido, Keane, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Madonna, The Killers, Muse, Scissor Sisters, Sir Paul McCartney, Joss Stone, Stereophonics, Snoop, Robbie Williams, Velvet Revolver, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Cure and Sting.

In Philadelphia, acts performing will include Will Smith, the Dave Matthews Band, Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, Puff Daddy and Jay-Z.

Among artists scheduled for Berlin are A-Ha, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Lauryn Hill and Brian Wilson.

The concert in Rome will feature musicians including Faith Hill and Duran Duran, while Jamiroquai, Craig David, Youssou N’Dour and Yannick Noah will be among those playing Paris.

I wonder if people will be doing a Phil Collins and jetting all around the gaff. Info on who is playing was borrowed from the quality tabloid the sun. But if you click here there is a better report from the BBC. Previous tcal post here.

Xevoz

danger @ 12:24 pm

Xevoz
I chose the on fire guy obviously. And then I thought, this giant square sword he has is freakin’ awesome. Then I got the GIANT GREEN LASER SWORD and I was all holy shit this owns my previous sword. Then I picked up a gun. That was cool, cause I could kill the aliens from far away. Then I picked up this giant green laser beam gun. And fried them all. Did I mention that the guy I chose was on fire? Excellent.Xevoz.

Futurama straight to DVD movies

danger @ 11:17 am
Well, I spoke to David X.Cohen because we did promos for a new Futurama compilation and he said that they did have talks with the top guys at FOX and they were extremely impressed with the sales of the Futurama DVDs. The idea was to make a Futurama movie right to DVD and then a 2nd and a 3rd. That’s what’s being discussed. Fox is trying to figure out a budget for the whole project, and it sounded like David X. was very jazzed!

I would love more than anything to do that show again. I thought it was best experience on every level… creatively, voice-wise, writing, animation and the laughs. The laughs. Writers and performers that respected each other.

Okami e3 2005 trailer

danger @ 11:40 pm

This game looks pretty sharp.

Okami is heavily inspired by Japanese calligraphy and watercolor. You play the sun god Amaterasu reincarnated as a wolf, sent to defeat an evil monster and restore color back to the world.

The art direction is beautiful, but the innovation is in the gameplay. Holding down the R1 button displays a canvas overlay upon which you paint brush strokes which then trigger certain actions in the 3D world.

Watch the trailer here. That quote is from Waxy’s underdog E3 games roundup, where he features a few games that may have slipped your radar.

Guy summons UFOs on demand

danger @ 8:41 pm

Action News (I can’t believe it’s really called that) reports on a guy who can pray for UFOs and make them appear. The news reporter says he thought the guy was nuts, but then they went down and saw it for themselves. Click to watch the full report.

An ABC-TV affiliate in Las Vegas broadcast images of a UFO summoned by a self-styled “prophet” who predicts many more will be seen throughout the area next week.
