American Office

danger @ 11:26 pm

Check out comments @ mefi on the new American office.

I watched the first US episode, and was surprised at how non-crap it was. It wasn’t by any means as good as the original, but it made me laugh. I watched the second ep on Tuesday, and it was…crap.

I saw the original, and I saw the US Pilot and of COURSE i compared it to the original, but I will say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I have a feeling when they start doing original material instead of recreating British episodes it will “come into its own”.

What i loved most about the original was the deafening SILENCE that would just make you want to rip your face off. it was brilliant. The American version has really gotten rid of that, which i think is a shame. That being said, my family hate Hate HATED the British version and seemed to really enjoy the US version, so maybe NBC is doing something right.

Seems to be not as bad as people thought. I watched some of it, and thought exactly the same. - Not as awful as it could be, but not a patch on the original.

The website for the software that runs this site was scamming search engines

danger @ 11:06 pm

Read all about it at Waxy.org. Basically:

I discovered last week that since early February, he’s been quietly hosting at least 168,000 articles on their website. These articles are designed specifically to game the Google Adwords program, written by a third-party about high-cost advertising keywords like asbestos, mesothelioma, insurance, debt consolidation, diabetes, and mortgages. (Update: Google is actively removing every article from their results, but here’s a saved copy of the first page of results. You can still view about 25,000 results on Yahoo. Here’s an example of some results in MSN.)

Interesting. I would have considered donating some cash because the wordpress software is fantastic. But now I’m glad I haven’t and definately won’t. I don’t really care that he was doing it, but search engine spamming is a bad thing. The software continues to rule though, so unless hidden code is uncovered in it that is doing something awful, we’ll continue to use it here. The internet is still debating whether this was a really bad thing to do, a bad thing to do, or just a way for him to get some cash together to fund the project. We’ll leave them to it.

I am a Japanese School Teacher

danger @ 10:16 pm
In August 2003 I moved to Kyoto, Japan as a part of the JET program. I am an assistant language teacher in three Jr. High schools. The experience has been…interesting to say the least. Interesting enough to warrant its own editorial.

I wish I could say it stops there, but actually, it gets worse. Let me introduce you to a game Japanese kids like to play called “Kancho.”

Actually, it’s not so much a “game” as it is kids clasping their hands together, sticking out their first fingers, and shoving them up your butt. I’m really not joking.

You know, before we come to Japan, they tell us a lot of ultimately useless stuff. What kind of computer to bring, if our DVD’s will work, clothing sizes, that kind of nonsense. Nowhere, and I mean nowhere, in the 3-4 months of orientations did anyone ever mention that at some point, a Japanese kid may try to stick their fingers up our butt. That’s something I would have liked to know, personally.

I know several people doing the JET thing. So many questions to ask them now.

Incredible Interview

danger @ 10:13 pm

An interview with brad bird, writer/director of underwhelming The Incredibles.

RM: Hi Brad. How did you get that f*&%ing awesome job?

BB: I started my first animated film when I was 11, and I finished it when I was almost 14. It was a new version of the tortoise and the hare. And the tortoise was the bad guy. It ends up being a five-way tie, because other animals join the race. It was 15 minutes long. I sent it to Disney and they liked it, so they sort of opened their doors to me and I started working with some of their old master animators.

Check it out.

Craasshhhh Smmaasshhh

Sunny News

jp @ 6:52 pm

Thought I’d do a wind up of the fantastic stories that are on the sun today because I find them interesting and I’m bored….. First off there is a report that Halle Berry will play Storm again in X-men 3 but only if she gets a bigger role, feck off catwoman, Master Singer has done a grand job so far so let him call how much screen time you get, stop begging. She is 38 now, but I still would.

Secondly there is a mad story about a guy who thought he was watching a robbery on his webcam. He was in Australia and the robbery was happening in Exmouth, Devon at around 3:30 am. I wanna know why he was watching a street web cam of exmouth at that hour of the morning, hoping to see some strapping young lassies no doubt.

The last story relates to the games which is a reality show on Channel 4 where Z list celebrities battle it out in different sporting events. Anyway the bloke from bread left because he was :

physically and mentally exhausted

Rubbish, he left because he couldn’t take losing. So they replaced him with another loser, Danny from HearSay. The only reason to watch that show is for Kirsty Gallagher. She is great. Gold for Kirsty, here’s a pic.

kirsty

Oh some guy called Fabian Flowers shot himself in a strip club and hid the gun after he died. Well he must have because they can’t find it and they’ve shut down the murder investigation. Sounds like the cops had to go and play marbles in the yard and didn’t have time for proper work. Have fun finding that story amongst the tits. Thats all from the sun today, quality stuff.

Haha Sony

jp @ 2:29 pm

Pay up suckers. Stop theiving other peoples technology. Click click for full story on BBC. Joypads do have to vibrate, its very important to the gaming experience. Wouldn’t it be cool if they made an environment that when your playing a game the whole place shakes for instance if your being chased by a dinosaur. Excellent idea, patent pending.

Incredibly difficult and violent shoot-em-up. Bloody Hell.

Terri Schiavo

danger @ 2:50 pm

Going straight to hell anyway? Welcome to the internet circus. Visit the Terri Schiavo blog. Then visit the Michael Schiavo blog (her husband.) See what’s on Terri’s ipod here. Visit the Don’t Feed Terri store. Want to get angry with America all over again? Have a look here too. And now lets look at some of the comments on the Terri Shiavo blog:

NOBODY SHOULD BE FORCED TO DIE, IT SHOULD EITHER BE THEIR CHOICE AND THATS IT. IN THIS CASE, IT SHOULD BE DEATH BY NATURAL CAUSES EVEN IF SHE CAN’T COMMUNICATE OR DO DAILY FUNCTIONS. JUST BECAUSE SHE CAN’T COMPREHEND LIKE THE REST OF US, DOES THAT MEAN THAT SHE CAN’T LOVE OR EXPERIENCE ANY OTHER BASIC EMOTION THAT NORMAL PEOPLE CAN EXPERIENCE? THINK ABOUT IT!

“It should either be their choice and thats it.”

Apparently I am going to hell because I’m laughing my ass off right now. (i.e. fucking die already) Honestly though, the chick died what 15, 20 years ago, her body just didn’t catch on to that yet. Let it go.

Since 1990 the woman has been dead. Life is not a beating heart. If life is to be protected in all its forms, then how about saving those on death row as well. Fucking animals.

Boards.even more

danger @ 2:23 am

Boards continues its world domination. Boards.co.nz is now open for business. So thats boards.ie, boards.jp, boards.us and the new one. You could almost start betting on what the next one will be. It’s an interesting proposition - create strong branding in numerous countries as you go, building up large communities. Then continue a path of expansion with the aim of becoming large enough to sell off the entire suite of sites to some of the big community players, or even Microsoft. Certainly a cynical proposition by me, but why not. I don’t see why the success of boards.ie will be mirrored in other countries though; boards.ie was successful because it was one of the first out of the gate; but the other countries have long established bb services all over the place. Or do they? Is there something unique in the way boards.ie operates? What’s the point of all encompassing sites like boards when you have ultra specialised, moderatable, privacy-levelled etc. tools such as Yahoo Groups and the like? And will boards not just collapse under its own weight as it gets bigger? Answers on a postcard.

Boards also recently hired it’s first employee, Tom Murphy, another one of the co-founders and admins. Story on that at John Breslin’s (another admin/founder) blog.
