The Onion on the wardrobe malfunction one year on

danger @ 8:50 pm

Classic piece from The Onion.

As the nation approaches the one-year anniversary of the Super Bowl XXXVIII tragedy, an FCC study shows that millions of U.S. children were severely traumatized by the exposure to a partially nude female breast during the Feb. 1, 2004 halftime show.

“Mommy has dirty chest bumps,” said a 5-year-old boy quoted in one of the thousands of case studies compiled by the FCC. “She’s like the bad lady on TV. I’m afraid Mommy will take off her shirt and scare everyone. I hate Mommy.”

1000 Bars

danger @ 8:35 pm

This New York city guy pledges to visit 1000 bars in 2005. So far he’s up to 135. What a hero.

Now, for the last couple of years, I have had it in my head that I could have a drink in 1000 different bars within a year. I have discussed this with my wife, who thinks I am crazy, and she has agreed to support me in my endeavor.

I have also rejoined a health club and am going to prove that my tour of the bars can be completed while maintaining, and even improving, my overall physical well-being.

My journey will begin January 1st, 2005. I will keep you up-to-date on my progress on this BLOG.

Holograph machine

danger @ 8:26 pm

Heliodisplay
Hurray for progress, check out this story on a new holograph machine. These guys (their site was down when I tried it) have apparently made the ‘heliodisplay’ which does something clever with intaking air, altering it, sending it back out and then shooting lasers at it to make a 3d hologram. Sounds a bit mad for sure, but has The Korea Times ever lied to you before?

VW files charges against maker of suicide polo ad

danger @ 8:08 pm

In a further update to the VW Polo suicide ad, Volkswagon have filed criminal proceedings against the makers of it, Lee and Dan.

In a statement, Lee and Dan said, “The ad got out accidentally and has spread like wildfire. It wasn’t meant for public consumption. We think the spot reflects what people see in the news everyday, and in this instance the car is the hero that protects innocent people from someone with very bad intentions. We’re sorry if the ad has caused any offense.”

Iraq elections update

danger @ 8:50 pm

Looks like things went well. Resistance wasn’t as heavy as expected and early reports say as much as 60% may have got out and vote. Though you already knew that. So lets look at some Iraq blogs on it.

The People have Won. (Iraq the Model.)
The Best Eid I ever had. (Free Iraqi.)
Hold your Head up High, you are Iraqi (Healing Iraq)
Suicide Bombers V. Suicide Voters (The Mesopotamian)

30 people dead wasn’t exactly the bloodbath that was expected. So is this the start of something much bigger? Can the American policy be justified? Does it matter that it was all based on lies if the end result is a good one?

US Airforce in Iran

danger @ 11:52 am
The U.S. Air Force is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Iran’s ayatollahs, flying American combat aircraft into Iranian airspace in an attempt to lure Tehran into turning on air defense radars, thus allowing U.S. pilots to grid the system for use in future targeting data, administration officials said.

The flights, which have been going on for weeks, are being launched from sites in Afghanistan and Iraq and are part of Bush administration attempts collect badly needed intelligence on Iran’s possible nuclear weapons development sites, these sources said, speaking on condition of strict anonymity.

Interesting. But there’s no hard evidence that the above is true.

I’d hit that Big Mac

danger @ 10:20 am

As in, I’d have sex with a hamburger. In a moronic twist of advertising trying to be hip and down with American youth McDonalds adopted the ‘i’d hit it’ saying (which as anyone who’s been reading the internets these last few years will know, means ‘I’d have sex with her/him’) for their McDonalds online ads. Urban Dictionary on I’d hit it:

1. I’d Hit it
Vernacular, commonly used by males, meaning, “I would like to have sexual relations with that female.”
“Wow, she’s stacked! I’d hit it!”

Funny. Link to World Champion blog post about this with pics. (via.)

Wow.

The Sand Traveler is a rendering of 1,000 traveling particles, each in pursuit of another. Over time, patterns of travel are exposed as sweeping paths of color.

You can just look at the cool pics or run the java applet and watch one being created in real time.

Oh I don’t care about the prime directive! We gotta go beyond Warp factor 9… to Warp Factor Loooooooove!

This seems to be part of some larger film called Auto Destruct thats to be shown at Sci Fi London, a convention at the start of February. But I’m not digging any further into this after seeing that video.
