Texas Super highway
Texas wants to build a super highway.
The Trans-Texas Corridor project, as envisioned by Republican Gov. Rick Perry in 2002, would be a 4,000-mile transportation network costing an awesome $175 billion over 50 years, financed mostly if not entirely with private money. The builders would then charge motorists tolls.
But these would not be mere highways. Proving anew that everything’s big in Texas, they would be megahighways — corridors up to a quarter-mile across, consisting of as many as six lanes for cars and four for trucks, plus railroad tracks, oil and gas pipelines, water and other utility lines, even broadband transmission cables.
Link. $175 billion for this sounds pretty disgusting at the present time, but I suppose life must go on, and everyone knows life can’t continue without quarter-mile wide super highways. (via.)

Yay, Lara Croft in Ireland!
Feshti's back and this time he's counting down the top 10 movie opening scenes of all time.
Is American opinion and culture crowding out all others?
I am from Waco, TX and my family own land in Downsville, TX. We have been hearing rumors about the So-called “Superhighway,” going through my family’s land. I just want to tell everyone who is listening or see this note that it is not going to happen. That is our land and there will not be any Superhighway built on top of it. Thanks

DeGrate,
I appreciate and applaud your comment that your land will not be used for the Superhighway, but if we don’t get the legislation changed that is exactly what will happen. I think we need new direct cooridors between our major cities and Mexico and private land will have to be used to build the highway. BUT, owners of private land MUST be properly compensated. With the present bill, that will not happen.
